Spring is keeping me busy - La primavera mi tiene occupata

I was surprised when I realized how much time had passed since I last posted, but I have not been idle. Spring engulfs me its sea of green and heavenly scents and I forget everything else. I buy too many seeds, I wander around photographing buds and bugs, I wake up at dawn with a new garden plan, I lay out plant combinations in my mind, and then undo them.

At the end of February I laid out a raised bed with bits and pieces of discarded items found around the place and filled it with the matted roots and weeds peeled off the roof of my father's former workshop and with some soil mix and compost.
Recently I replaced the cut up pipes with bamboo and everything was growing quite well, but this morning it dawned on me that it could be bigger and better, and that it was time to make it so.
So I lengthened it by about 1' and widened it by 3 ', this time using some traditional, but very simplified sheet mulching. In the new area, without disturbing the soil, I cut the grass that was growing there, left it in place, added more cut grass, then some dry twigs and leaves, and some vegetable kitchen scraps. On top of this I laid down corrugated cardboard. The cardboard needs to be well wetted, but since rain is expected tonight, I temporarily laid a couple of posts on it and left it there until tomorrow, when I will add a layer of compost, and then, if I am able to finally get it, a last layer of straw.
I needed somewhere to put all those seeds I'm sprouting!

Hi Alison, thanks for visiting. I went to your blog, but I see that you are taking a break for now. I've done it several times - once for an entire year!
