New perspective - Una nuova visuale

I've rented a tiny studio inside Ceglie for the next two months. The apartment I am currently in, kindly loaned to be by dear friends for the last nine months (!) is outside of the main part of town and since I can not drive here yet, since my knee went whacko 7 months ago, and since my place in the country is not ready yet, I've decided that it would be fun to spend at least 4 or 5 nights a week in town so I can go to the driving school's theory lessons from 7 pm to 8 pm and so I can attend the many events that take place during the summer in the town square, but usually do not start until 9 or 10 pm.

Here are some photos of my new nest: notice the high vaulted ceilings, the incredibly and typically steep stairs leading up to the living area, and the very tiny, but cute kitchen. Better duck when I take that last step, since I am quite accident prone!

I moan and groan - Mi lamento

Today I feel like bitching, moaning, groaning, whinging. I should feel grateful that my house has not been destroyed by a tornado, a hurricane, a tsunami, a fire, an earthquake, a flood and that there is no sinkhole under my bed. I should be grateful that I do not have a terminal illness I know of other than life itself, that I have food and shelter. But I do not feel it. I just feel guilty that I do not feel grateful.

I've had it with the house remodel, with the heat, the humidity and the mosquito bites. I've reached the limit of my budget and there is at least another  $50,000 worth of work that could or should be done, at least $22,000 of which definitely needs to be done. There is too much house and too much land to take care of. The dream of homesteading or just growing my own fruit and vegetables has lost its appeal. I think a tiny house with a small yard with one fruit tree would do. Maybe an apartment with a balcony and a farmer's market with organic produce would do too. How about an RV?

Even the dog is always looking for ways to escape.

The daredevil dog - Il cane spericolato

To the sound of Vasco Rossi's famous song "Una vita spericolata".... (A reckless or daredevil life)
Cirillo is stressing me out! Aside from attacking my hands and feet, barking at me when I say "no", trying to very affectionately greet every passerby (I never realized how many people, young and old. are terrified of dogs here!), he also seems to have suicidal tendencies.
When I first brought him home he would go out on the deck of the apartment an peer over the low ledge. So far so good. Then one day I looked up and saw him standing on the ledge. It's amazing that the shriek I let out did not send him right over the edge. After that, deck privileges were suspended for several days until I relented and let him out there again. He behaved for a few days and then, yesterday, there he was again. This time I quietly took a photo, then lured him back in with a treat. No more deck.
Niente piu` terrazzo.
A couple of days ago I was out at the house that is getting remodeled (never ending remodel) and out of the corner of my eye I saw a movement on the highest part of the roof. Cirillo was standing there as if it were the most normal thing in the world. I was too freaked out to take a photo and instead just calmly walked inside, up the stairs and coaxed him down. In that spot there is no ledge and in order to get off you have to come slowly down the incline to the right. Slowly, because if you pick up speed you will go flying right off the far right edge. As he came down that incline I could hear his little nails trying to keep traction.....
Of course all of this is in addition to always trying to leap out of the window of a moving car, picking up EVERYTHING he sees on the street - including cigarette lighters - drinking soap and bleach someone is using to wash the sidewalk, etc. etc. Some people describe him as a "rascal", I would say that he is more of a "juvenile delinquent"!
I only hope he grows out of it.

From the veggie patch - Dall'orticello

This is what I picked yesterday evening from my veggie patch. I don't know what that squash with the round end is, nor how to cook it. Can anyone enlighten me?
Qualcuno puo` illuminarmi?
The Plumbago is thriving. What a plant! It has survived here, mostly on its own, for at least 25 years.

Aren't we cute? Strange how those shoes are now missing a few little parts....
Quanto siamo carini. Strano, ma a quelle scarpe adesso manca qualche pezzetto....

Shadow shot Sunday

Very early in the morning.
Di mattina molto presto.

July 3 - How strange, one of the photos I had uploaded is not here, so I am adding it now.  Plus it's the one I like better because of the pinkish tones.

A tree, a dog, and lots of zucchini - Un albero, un cane e tante zucchine

Work continues on the house and when I go out there to see what's going on I escape from the blazing heat by lying on a lawn chair in front of the picture window. I am invariably mesmerized by the trees swaying in the wind and, in particular, by this cypress that splits into three parts as it swings slowly back and forth and around. The more I stared the more it started looking like three very tall beings staring back at me as I stared at them. The heads are at the top and they are wearing tall conical hats. Wizards! Maybe I should stay out of the sun altogether. I tried to upload a video but my connection is too slow, so here's a photo of the green wizards.
Then there is the new dog, whose definitive name is now Cirillo (soft c as in church) - although a friend today suggested Oscar, which would have been a great name for him - and who always wants to chew on my feet as soon as I decide to rest. Good thing I wear Keens a lot - practically indestructible.
She wants to rest????? Never!
Vuole riposare?????Mai!

Let's see if I can get the whole thing in my mouth!
Vediamo se riesco a infilarlo tutto in bocca!
Yummy! Ummmmmm, buono!
Fortunately the vegetable patch is taking care of itself at the moment, because I don't think I could deal with Cirillo and too much gardening at the same time.
The zucchini, of course, are out of control.
Naturalmente ho perso il controllo delle zucchine.
